Videoconferences offered with service members in Iraq
By MSU News Service
Montanans who have family members serving in Iraq can schedule a free videoconference at the Montana State University's Burns Technology Center.
MSU donates the staff and equipment to make the Montana end of the conference possible, while the Freedom Calls Foundation, a national nonprofit organization, takes care of the international end of the conference.
Montana families can talk to soldiers at Camp Taji, Camp Fallujah, Camp Taqaddum, Al Asad Airbase and Camp Victory, all of which are in Iraq.
Sites are not yet available in Afghanistan.
"Many soldiers stationed overseas have used videoconferencing to witness births, weddings and other special events," said Nadeen Comfort, videoconference coordinator at the Burns Center. "But we can arrange this just so families can connect.
“Especially during the holiday season, it means so much to the soldiers and the family members back home to be able to see each other in person. We are glad to use our technology to make that happen," Comfort said.
The Burns Center is in the EPS Building on the MSU campus. People who are not in the Bozeman area should talk to Comfort about the possibility of other Montana videoconference sites.
